Itineraries
Guide updated · timelines are planning tools, not live schedules
These plans are built for real East Kimberley logistics — Spring Creek Track time, fuel, the long north vs south transfer, heat and Park Stay WA camping — not over-packed “do everything” lists. Pick the plan that matches your vehicle and nights, then open it for a full timeline, packing notes and what to skip.
Every itinerary still defers to Explore Parks WA / DBCA for track status and alerts, and to Park Stay WA for camp bookings. Print any plan from the detail page, or grab the free practical planner.
Which plan matches your trip?
One night only: accept that you will do one end well (usually south Domes + Cathedral, or north Echidna). Open the one-night taste plan.
Most self-drive first visits: two nights is the practical minimum for both ends without heroics. Open the two-night classic.
Photographers / slower groups: three nights adds a second light window and optional longer southern walks. Open the three-night depth plan.
No suitable 4WD: scenic flight day from Kununurra or Halls Creek for aerial context — not a substitute for multi-night ground time if you later self-drive.
Recommended default: book Walardi + Kurrajong (or two nights at one end if transfers fail), protect cool mornings, and treat midday heat as recovery — not bonus kilometres.
Time budget nobody writes down
Entry day: Spring Creek Track (about 1.5–3 hours typical) + registration + camp setup. Exit day: pack + track + fuel. That leaves one full cool morning on a single overnight. With two nights you can place Walardi against Domes/Cathedral and Kurrajong against Echidna (or reverse). Highway day-trips from Kununurra are long and exhausting for first-timers.

1 night in-park (or gateway + long day)
One-night taste (tight limits)
Best for: Time-poor visitors who accept they will only do one end well
A single overnight that prioritises either south (Domes + Cathedral) or north (Echidna) — not both. Straight about Spring Creek Track fatigue and heat.

2 nights in-park
Two-night classic (recommended minimum)
Best for: Most self-drive first visitors who want both ends without heroics
Night 1 south (Walardi) for Domes + Cathedral; transfer north for Echidna; Night 2 Kurrajong — or reverse. The practical minimum for Purnululu.

3 nights in-park
Three-night self-drive depth
Best for: Photographers, slower groups, and anyone adding longer southern walks
Adds recovery time, a second light window at Echidna or Domes, and optional Window / Piccaninny / Whip Snake only if conditions and fitness allow.

Half to full day from Kununurra or Halls Creek
Scenic flight + short ground (no Spring Creek)
Best for: Visitors without suitable 4WD, or those wanting aerial context first
Fixed-wing or helicopter scenic options from gateway towns (operators change — check official). Not a substitute for multi-night ground time if you want gorges on foot.
