Where to stay near Purnululu

Prioritise in-park camping when you can book official sites — mornings become walk time, not transfer time.Kurrajong (north) and Walardi (south) are the main DBCA campgrounds via Park Stay WA. When camps are full or you need services, use Kununurra, Halls Creek or Warmun as gateway bases. Official camping: Park Stay WA · Explore Parks WA park page.

Inside the park

Kurrajong & Walardi campgrounds

Book only via Park Stay WA / official channels. Kurrajong serves the northern walks (Echidna cluster); Walardi serves the southern Domes / Cathedral side. Peak dry season sells out early. Self-sufficiency matters — confirm facilities, water and generator rules on the official page. This site does not affiliate Park Stay WA camping fees.

Book camping (Park Stay WA)

Choose a base by intent

Last fuel/food is outside the park. Medical and pharmacy belong in Kununurra (or Halls Creek on a southern approach) before you unseal. Visitor Centre is registration, not a hospital or servo.

  • Families / mixed energy: book Walardi if you can — Domes and Cathedral are the honest first-visit walks. Fill fuel at Warmun or Halls Creek with margin. Do medical in the last real town.
  • Echidna dawn / photographers: Kurrajong overnight. Do not treat a Halls Creek motel as a dawn Echidna product — the internal transfer plus Spring Creek already ate your cool hours.
  • Camps booked out: gateway bed in Kununurra or Halls Creek, shift dates, or a scenic-flight day — see booked-out Plan B. Do not invent a bush camp.

Halls Creek

Southern gateway with fuel and basics — often the shorter approach to the highway turn-off (~160 km to park access, verify). Practical for multi-day Kimberley routes.
